2M5: TIME –Worked through pages 9 to 11 of the “Using Maths in Everyday Situations 2” booklet.

3B3: CIRCLE – Worked through and exercise on circumference and area from the board.  We started designing an exam standard question for our peers.

Int2: SURDS – Page 206, Ex7 – ques. 3, 4, 5, 6.  Note on “rationalising the denominator”.

Int2 (Mr McDonald’s class): QUADRATIC EQUATIONS – Worked through the quadratic equations lesson on MyMaths.

27th January 2012: Mr McDonald’s Classes

2M1 – Calculating any side of a right angled triangle given a side and another angle. Looking at some of the practical uses for trigonometry.

4B5 – Using speed distance time relations to calculate any of the three variables, given the other two. Converting fractions of time into hours and minutes and vice versa.

1X3 – Calculating the size of an angle using a protractor and, laterly, naming angles to distinguish angles from one another.

AHFURTHER METHODS OF PROOF & NUMBER THEORY – Went over the homework questions set for today and then continued using sigma notation to prove things firstly by induction, and then directly.

AHSEQUENCES & SERIES – Began looking at how to use sigma notation for the sum of an arithmetic sequence.

2M3DISTANCES & DIRECTIONS – Used the skills learned over the past three days to use three figure bearings to make scale drawings: pg 72 Ex 4A All questions, pg 73 Ex 4B/C q. 1 to 3 & Investigation q. a,b,c. HOMEWORK: the task Scale Drawing, is to be completed for Thursday 2/2/12.

1Q2COORDINATES – Worked through the following tasks from www.mymaths.co.uk, Coordinates 1, Coordinates 2 and OW Coordinates, and then played Flippy Neck.

INT2 – Solving quadratic equations and simplifying quadratic fractions using the three forms of factorisation.

2M5: TIME – Discussed the 24-hour clock.  Worked through pages 5 to 8 of the “Using Maths in Everyday Situations 2” booklet.

3B3: CIRCLE – Continued with our investigation of how to calculated the area of a circle (completed our posters).

Int2: SURDS – Introduced “surds”.  Copied down a note then tried some questions from the board.  See SURDS for some extra help.  Page 206, Ex7 – ques. 1, 2.

25th January 2012: Mr Cooper’s Classes

2M3 – DISTANCES & DIRECTIONS – Learned how to use three figure bearings to describe the position of an object.

AH – SEQUENCES & SERIES – Completed the questions started on Monday, and then looked at how to use the Euclidean Algorithm to express the g.c.d. of two positive integers in terms of the numbers.

4B2 – REVISION – Carried on working through 2010 Intermediate 2 Paper 2.

1Q2 – COORDINATES – Looked at coordinates beyond zero. Carried on drawing our South Park pictures, and once finished, moved on to pg 64 Ex 2B q. 4

3B5 – MYMATHS – Worked through five tasks from www.mymaths.co.uk

1Y1 – Introduction to Cartesian coordinates, being able to identify coordinates and to revise some key terms in our vocabulary. Textbook Page 112.

2M1 – Choosing the correct trigonometric function for any given right-angled triangle.

4B5 – Revision of the speed, distance, time topic – converting minutes into fractions of an hour and calculating time periods from the 24hr clock – Textbook Page 141.

INT2 – Revision of factorising quadratic functions – solving quadratic functions with and without a right hand value.
